Club IWA Austria 2018 – Report / Bericht

On the 15th of November 2018, this year’s Club IWA took place in Vienna, Austria. Once a year, the Austrian National Committee of the International Water Association organizes this half-day event for their members, with lectures from various areas of the water sector and inspiring discussions. The Club IWA also provides a perfect opportunity for the participants to get to know each other better, exchange ideas about their field of work and future projects, and to network. 

This year, two special speakers were invited to join our meeting in Vienna. Professor Enrique Cabrera, IWA Vice-President, and Ms. Ulrike Kelm, Communications Manager at the IWA Global Office in The Hague, Netherlands visited the event. Additional speakers from Austria were Mr. Günter Langergraber, IWA Fellow, and Mr. Walter Kling, President of the IWA Austria. 

Professor Cabrera gave a presentation on performance indicators and benchmarking from an international perspective and provided many good examples to showcase and analyse this topic from many different angles. Ms. Kelm presented the IWA’s new strategic plan for the years 2019 to 2024 and informed about news from the secretariat. Mr. Kling reported on the 2018 IWA World Water Congress, which took place in Tokyo, Japan, and encouraged other delegates present at Club IWA to reflect on their personal impressions. Mr. Langergraber described his personal IWA membership and engagement journey and highlighted challenges and opportunities he has encountered being an actively engaged IWA member.  

Apart from the interesting presentations and following discussion, this year’s Club IWA once again demonstrated to be the platform to directly interact and discuss with the IWA representatives about latest news, updates, and strategic actions within the organisation and about changes that their effects on the Austrian members and the global IWA membership.

Am 15. November 2018 fand der diesjährige Club IWA in Wien statt. Das Österreichische Nationalkomitee organisiert für seine Mitglieder einmal im Jahr diese halbtägige Veranstaltung, bei der es Vorträge aus den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen des Wassersektors sowie anregende Diskussionen gibt. Natürlich bietet der Club IWA auch eine perfekte Gelegenheit für die Teilnehmenden einander besser kennenzulernen.

Heuer gab es zwei besondere Vortragende: Herr Cabrera, IWA Vize-Präsident, und Frau Kelm, IWA Communications Manager. Weitere Vortagende waren Herr Langergraber, IWA Fellow und Herr Kling, Präsident der IWA Österreich.

Herr Cabrera präsentierte das Thema Leistungskennzahlen und Benchmarking aus einer internationalen Perspektive und brachte viele anschauliche Beispiele, um dieses Thema greifbarer zu machen. Frau Kelm stellte den neuen Strategieplan der IWA für die Jahre 2019 bis 2024 vor und informierte über Neuigkeiten aus dem Headquarters. Herr Kling berichtete über den Weltwasserkongress, der heuer in Tokyo stattgefunden hat und bat andere Teilnehmer über deren persönliche Eindrücke zu erzählen. Herr Langergraber schilderte anhand seiner persönlichen IWA Geschichte welche Herausforderungen er zu bewältigen hatte aber auch welche Vorteile durch sein Engagement entstanden sind.

Abgesehen von den guten Vorträgen mit anschließender Diskussion wurde der heurige Club IWA auch dazu genutzt, um direkt mit den Vertretern der IWA über Veränderungen innerhalb der Organisation sowie über Veränderungen, die die Mitglieder betreffen könnten, zu sprechen.
